We hit the end of the season and the weather could not have been more beautiful - blue skies and sunshine, but with crisp air that had everyone in flannels, beanies, and boots.
1st Stop: Willowbrook Farms. We bought apple butter and made two gallons of hand pressed Stayman Winesap apple cider that is so good I’m having to threaten Nate under penalty of death so it lasts for Thanksgiving dinner.
2nd Stop: Riley’s Apple Farm. Definitely the tourist stop - and the reason we went to Oak Glen from my apple picking research - they had everything from crafts to handmade candle dipping. We wandered through orchards and picked our way through Fuji, Winesapp, and Pippin trees until bags were full and arms heavy.
3rd Stop: Apple Annie’s, a three minutes drive past Willowbrook Farms. The restaurant was PACKED but still felt down home - it took almost everything for me not to order the Sunday Special Homemade Chicken Pot Pie so I just stared at the couple next to us who did. I also did not stop the boys when they ordered the cookie ice cream sandwich the size of a dinner plate…when in apple country you apparently DO NOT order the mile high pie. Boys.
